MB 399/Art of the Microbiome: An Interdisciplinary Conversation

This course employs image and sound-based inquiry to explore microbiomes – microbial communities and their genomes. The course format will be lectures interspersed with hands on studio time to explore scientific concepts through art media.

Selected topics:

  • What is a microbiome and how do we study them?
  • How are the processes of art and science related?
  • Human and environmental microbiomes
  • Bacterial communication
  • Data visualization
  • Examples of media you will use to explore scientific concepts: Clay, Music, Charcoal, Collage
